Large-scale motions and self-similar structures in compressible turbulent channel flows

چکیده

The present study investigates the scale characteristics of log- and outer-region motions structures in subsonic supersonic wall turbulence. energy distribution among multiscale outer region is found to be dominated by semilocal friction-Reynolds-number effects rather than Mach-number effects. geometrical self-similar populating logarithmic are also revealed adopting a linear coherence spectrum.

Large-Scale Unsteadiness in Compressible, Turbulent Flow

Large-scale unsteadiness lies at the heart of many of the design challenges associated with flight at high Mach numbers. Phenomena such as sound generation, fatigue loading, mixing, and separation are driven by turbulent motion on scales larger than the boundary layer thickness and longer than the boundary layer time scale /Ue,. This talk will focus on large-scale unsteadiness in attached a...

Small scale localization in turbulent flows. A priori tests applied to a possible Large Eddy Simulation of compressible turbulent flows

Amethod for the localization of small scales in turbulent velocity fields is proposed. The method is based on the definition of a function f of the velocity and vorticity fields that reproduces a normalized form of the twisting-stretching term of the Helmholtz equation. By means of this method the equations of motion can be selectively filtered in regions that are rich in small scale motions. T...

Large- and very-large-scale motions in channel and boundary-layer flows.

Large-scale motions (LSMs; having wavelengths up to 2-3 pipe radii) and very-LSMs (having wavelengths more than 3 pipe radii) have been shown to carry more than half of the kinetic energy and Reynolds shear stress in a fully developed pipe flow. Studies using essentially the same methods of measurement and analysis have been extended to channel and zero-pressure-gradient boundary-layer flows to...

Diffusion in supersonic turbulent compressible flows.

We investigate diffusion in supersonic turbulent compressible flows. Supersonic turbulence can be characterized as network of interacting shocks. We consider flows with different rms Mach numbers and where energy necessary to maintain dynamical equilibrium is inserted at different spatial scales. We find that turbulent transport exhibits superdiffusive behavior due to induced bulk motions. In a...

The evolution of large scale motions in turbulent pipe flow

A dual-plane snapshot POD analysis of turbulent pipe flow at a Reynolds number of 104,000 is presented. The high-speed PIV data were simultaneously acquired in two planes, a crossstream plane (2D-3C) and a streamwise plane (2D-2C) on the pipe centerline. The cross-stream plane analysis revealed large structures with a spatio-temporal extent of 1-2R, where R is the pipe radius. The temporal evol...
